Dye DSR+ Marker – A hands on review

dsr+ hands on review

Dye DSR was a neat gun” – A statement you might have heard from the paintball players about the DSR (prev version). DSR was arguably one of the best marker in the price range. With some custom upgrades, my experience with DSR was divine! So last year, 2021, i made up my mind to invest in the upgraded version DSR+.

DYE is one of the well-recognized brands for its performance, speed and durability of paintball markers. M3+, DAM, DSR, 1SERIES, RIZE CZR and other models have gained great popularity among the players . So Dye decided to hit the the market with its improved & updated DSR+ model.

So, Here’s my hands on review with DSR plus , a mid to high end paintball marker.

Performance

More Fun, realistic and super Smooth! The Dye utilised precision enhancements throughout the features. After playing 2 tournaments with DYE+, I could say almost zero kicks even when ramping. The shot quality was so nice that i didn’t feel a need of adjusting the sfr. Ball on Ball, GSR+ shots flawlessly. I get almost 9 Pods on refill.

M3 vs DSR+ ? I have used M3 and i feel like DSR+ had almost everything that m3 had. However, one thing missing was recoil cancellation. With recoil cancelation in M3, the M3 actually have zero recoils. But DSR+ was slightly smoother and quieter. As i mentioned about almost zero kick in DSR+ too, I don’t feel like paying an extra $500 for M3, when DSR+ is offering almost everything same.

Moreover, although the OLED screen on M3 looks more amazing, however i have found the OLED of DSR+ more simple and easier to use. M3 could be better when we talk about ASA, trigger and feedneck however, if we magnet Mod the DSR+ , it surely steals the limelight.

If you’re coming from Planet eclipse markers, initially you might feel the trigger isn’t as bouncy as in them. But with some adjustment you would get used to it pretty nicely.

Upgraded Features

A lot of paintball players in the past disliked Dye because of them making another 800$ gun every year without no significant change. But this wasn’t the case with DYE+. Dye surely banged on with the new features than it’s predecessor DYE. Following are some upgrades:

  • Quick Turn Thumb Locking Knob
  • Sticky Stronger Grips
  • ACR+ Bolt Design
  • 4th Gen Eye Pipe
  • Flex SFR Solenoid
  • Clamping Feed Neck
  • XL ASA lever
  • Improved Grip Clearance
  • Edge 2 Trigger system

Standard features that the Dye carried from its predecessor DSR Model include:

  • 2 Piece Core Barrel
  • Gas-Thru Design
  • MOS operating system
  • Quick Release Bolt
  • Freewire Connectors
  • Same colored O-rings
  • UL 45 frame

Detailed Look into Features

Trigger Control

DYE Dsr+ trigger
GSR+ Trigger design

At first, i thought the trigger design was a bit odd than what we had in the existing markers. However, the exclusive thing about this model is that the trigger is consistent and reacts against the fingers flawlessly. I could feel full control of my hands while shooting against my opponents. The DSR+ has utilized an edge 2 flat face design for fast reaction time, speed and quick Turning. There were rumours about the trigger that it’s ugly But Honestly, it’s super smooth and i loved it.

No Blow Back – Reloading

During all the adrenaline rush, everyone wants a marker with no blow backs. DSR+ comes up with a proven flex bolt to avoid the issue of forcing back the bolt.

The bolt face is capable of carrying even the brittle paints gently from the breach.  It did not bring any sort of issues like clipping of paint, breach drag or blowback bolt.

Custom Signature Shot

Being a paintball player, I always seek flexibility in design to adjust my signature shot.

Fortunately, DSR+ offers custom airflow control to get a great shot as per your preferred settings. The model is equipped with Flex SFR Solenoid easily accessible under the grip. You can easily turn the lever toward the left and write to make the air flow adjustments.

Quick Service:

DSR+ has a quick release system via a push button. It allows the players to reinstall or remove the ARC+Bolt kit in a matter of seconds.  Unlike those traditional paintball marker, it simplifies the servicing process and makes standard maintenance more accessible.

Stronger Wraparound Grip

DYE understands how important it is for a player to have a secure grip on his gun. The incredible feature of this model is its dual-density material and micro-texture grip. It ensures superior comfort and control to the player on the battlefield. Moreover, the company redesigned the stress point to prevent ripping. The single screw design provides a reliable locking system.

Dye has extended the gun length in DSR+, by moving the fore grip forward like an inch compared to its previous version, DSR.

Tool-less Accessible Battery

The battery is housed in a comfortable, compact and durable front grip. You can easily access the battery through its quick turn-lock system. No tools are required like in other models. By turning the knob with your fingers the battery can be released.  You will not face any sort of issue like losing or misplacing a battery.

Ergonomic Construction – Design

The aluminium-made body is quite lightweight so you won’t be feeling any sort of discomfort even after holding it for hours. The entire structure of the paintball gun is made up of aluminium metal, low profile design. No bolts or screws are exposed or visible. The aggressive, ergonomic design set a benchmark for its competitors.

Inside the box

DSR+ comes in a secure box featuring EVA foam lining for the safety of the gun. It includes a mini O-ring kit, quick-start guide, Barrel sock, Allen Keyset, mini-ring kit and Dye slick lube.

Efficiency Test

So We ran an efficiency test on with 7 Pods of paintballs with an 80 cubic inch tank. If I have to sum up this test result in one word that would be “Super Smooth” or “Phenomenal“. It didn’t even break a single ball during the test. Ball after ball, this marker worked like a machine gun, leaving the barrel frosty. What a flawless performance. Even if you’re not planning to buy this beauty, just borrow it from a friend or a shop and at least try this once. Just like a Planet Eclipse 170r I would highly recommend DSR+.

DSR vs DSR+

So the DSR+ incorporated some new features to the basic design of its predecessor DSR marker. The first difference I noted in DSR+ is the improved and upgraded ARC+ bolt system. It makes the servicing incredibly easy and improves shot-to-shot consistency.

Having shooting experience of both models, you could easily feel that there is a great difference between DSR v/s DSR+. I found the minimal paintballs chopping and lesser kickback forceThe flex bolt has a soft face that ensures the least breakage of paintballs. Moreover, DSR+ shoots far smoother than DSR.

Another improvement that the paintball players adore in DSR+ is the solenoid flow restrictor.  It will let you adjust the airflow to control the speed of your shot. It helps the player to strike as smooth as possible. You can simply turn it left or right to make an ideal shot.

DSR has an Edge1 Trigger whereas DSR+ is equipped with an Edge 2 trigger. Although, the edge1 trigger gives great control over the powerful paintball gun DSR, the improved Edge 2 is more robust and recommended by the world championship players. The flat face trigger provides greater leverage and lower perch. You will find positive contact points against your fingers. Moreover, it has exceptional tuning options to customize your trigger, quick reaction time and matchless speed.

When I hold the DSR+ in my hands for shooting, I can feel a great difference in the foregrip from the DSR. The sticky stronger grips, in DSR+, produce enough resistance to hold the gun comfortably. The improved grip clearance is simply incredible.

If we compare the price of these two models, then you can get DSR at under $900, whereas DSR+ is available for around $1000. If you can increase your budget up to a hundred dollars then you can get something more thrilling and exciting to show some decisive moves in the tournament.

Final Thoughts

My experience with this model is absolutely fun. Its lightweight, easy to hold and flawless.

When I held this paint gun for the very first time in the field, I found the trigger a little bit peculiar.  It was not as consistent as I was expecting. However, I just overcame the issue and started playing like a pro after a few practice sessions. As it has an upgraded trigger, I used to play with the DSR and planet Eclipse, it takes a while to understand its functionality.

Moreover, I don’t need to use its Flex SFR Solenoid control to make adjustments. I found it perfect as it is. I personally don’t like to make adjustments with my new gear.  As compared to the competitor’s paintball gun, it doesn’t have a recoil cancellation feature.  But, still, it performs really well.

So, what are you waiting for?  Bring the real trill to your paintball game and bang on in the field with consistent shots. DSR plus, being an upgraded and improved version of DSR, has some really cool feature features like an enhanced grip system, adjustable SFR solenoid, edge 2 trigger system and much more.  You will surely adore its convenience, performance and durability like many others in paintball community reviewing GSR plus.
