Planet eclipse geo 4

This article is our detailed review of Planet Eclipse Geo 4, after playing with it in the field for more than 2.5 years and its still part of our collection.

We have been following Planet Eclipse, since the time we started playing paintball. If we have a look at the history of PE, they started with autocockers tweaking. Later on, in 2006 their first ground up was EGO series. And then they released Geo1, 2, 3, CS1, CS2 and finally GEO 4. ad GEO1, 2, 3, CS1, CS2 and then came the GEO 4. So GEO 4 is the sixth high-end spool valve gun. The GEO series by Planet eclipse has created big sports histories in paintball championship tournaments and won multiple MVP awards.

Let’s get down to its detailed Review!

The Spool Valve

Poppet valve markers of PE has its own identity in terms of stability, reliability and shot quality. However, we invest in the spool valve markers due to their recoil cancellation and zero kickback properties. Planet Eclipse EGO series has set the benchmark for its competitor’s about how the spool valve markers should perform.

So we ordered GEO 4 back in 2020 for the upcoming tournament. The first look of it was impressive and it seemed like as if Planet Eclipse coupled the EGO series with some spool valve assembly benefits – Reduced Kick! The quick switch ON/OFF button lets you start the gun easily. It features an LCD with audible game reminders and a navigation menu.

Design simplicity – The gun came as a convenient bolt with a strapped solenoid assembly. We didn’t need any sort of tools, extra gizmos or parts. The bolt kit consists of 3-simple parts that are easy to put together. There is the least possibility of connecting them in the wrong position.  Planet eclipse provides the Grease to dab on the 0–rings and the gun is ready to perform on the paintball battlefields.

Customizable

Planet eclipse has made GEO 4 very customisable for a delightful user experience. It has a Bespoke Custom Milled Body to deliver performance without any concern regarding weather conditions. It didn’t care about hot or cold weather, and performed really well for us in any extreme weather conditions.

PE increased the distance between the fore-grip and the trigger, which allows the user’s hands to adjust properly. You will surely enjoy controlling this gun, especially while making decisive moves. Moreover, it has a sleek, low-profile body that contributes to making it a lightweight and reliable gun.

GEO 4 features a Grip Frame Angle that ensures that you hit the target every time you shoot. The Grip frame is comfortable to use even while wearing the Gloves.  It has wraparound grips to avoid sudden damage.

Adjustable Trigger – Similar to CS2, the Geo4 has an adjustable Blade trigger. It is super soft to operate and gives shot-after-shot consistency without any discomfort. You can further customize it using magnets or a spring option.

Performance

Our test in the field shows that it is capable of shooting an average of 1400 to 1600 with 9 pods and a hopper. Hence, this is one of the most efficient GEO paintball guns on the market.

No kick – When we shot with GEO before installing the dwell and GST set, the kick was just a mild shaking adjacent to the LPR.  When we installed the dwell set and GST we found zero kick.

If we talk about its size then it has a moderate size and has a different appearance as compared to the other spool valve shape markers. Hence, its unique shape help you balance the gun and control it more precisely.

Shooting Test – IV Core

This marker features an onboard SFR and IV core that allows the user to customize and control its various functions.  SFR let you control the firing rate of the gun. In addition to this, the breach valve design resolves the ball jamming issue inside the barrel.

The IV core was first introduced by Planet Eclipse in GSL (geo 3.5’s limited edition) then was carried to to cs1, where they increased air volume so it could shoot at lower pressure. Geo 4 have that same volume expansion and hence going to shoot very similar to CS1.

If we talk about the accuracy, then GEO 4 striked every shot right on the target without any paintball chopping issue. The IV Core system is capable of shooting extremely fragile paintball and you can’t get a better bolt system than this. The FL barrel along aluminium tip delivers accurate strikes up to 100 feet range.

Another improvement in GEO 4, in comparison to CS1 or CS2, is the Solenoid Flow Restrictor. SFR controls the air exhaustion from the bolt through solenoid. If you adjust the SFR, it will change the speed of forward striking of the bolt. Therefore, if you turn up the FSR the bolt will move forward faster which will essentially have two purposes:

First, lowering the bolt speed will make the gun more smoother and shot gentle. Slow moving bolt in turns contacts the paintball gently, hence making it break lesser paint. Secondly, adjusting the bolt to move faster will help in cold weather conditions, as the grease doesn’t work well in cold conditions. Hence, turning up the bolt speed could really help in such weather conditions, although the faster moving bolt will likely to break a little more paint due to it’s fast contact with paintball.

Noise free-shooting system – GEO 4 is the quietest marker compared to the previous models CS1, CS2 and more.  The reason is it operates at a very low-pressure 135PSI and produces a little vibration.

It features a large firing chamber for an exceptional shooting experience.  The Improved bolt geometry ensures consistent and smooth shooting of the paintball gun.

Trigger

The trigger on GEO 4 is lighter in weight than the previous models, which makes pulling the trigger a lot more easier, which might be considered a really good thing by some. However, our personal preference is those heavy triggers (Not too heavy – a few grams heavier) which kind of gives a satisfying feel of pulling to your fingers along with some crisp clicking sound. Unlike Geo4 where you have that very soft clicking sound. So, We kind of feel that those heavier triggers in old markers had a nicer feel with them. But anyways, this thing boils down to personal preference.

Geo 4 trigger Review

Similar to CS2, the trigger in GEO4 is also adjustable Blade trigger and gives a shot-after-shot consistency without any discomfort. You can customize it using magnets or a spring option. The convenience to just change the trigger face, instead of changing the whole trigger, was really handy. So instead of just replacing the whole trigger, you can just put on the new trigger face and hence easily install the new trigger.

Maintenance

The spool valve marker requires more maintenance as compared to the poppits one. So, it is very important to lube and clean the 0-rings regularly.

We recommend lubing your GEO 4 after every 3k shots and you will never have any sort of problem with your spool valve. If you don’t lube your gun, then it will produce friction. This frictional force could break the seals and might end up damaging your marker.

Moreover, it has a hose-less design that gives you quick access to the breech sensors, circuit board, batteries and more without any gear.

According to the customer’s feedback reports, this gun is easy to clean, maintain and accessible to the internal parts. The wireless mainframe and body interface let you clean it without any damage.
