A Beginners Guide To Paintball Gear – What to Buy First ?

Last updated on October 15th, 2023

New to paintball ? Confused about what should you buy first ? Don’t worry this quick guide will be a relief. I will suggest the paintball gears with the priority, that helped me when I started playing. And here I am, sharing this to you.

Choices you made will definitely have an impact on enjoyment in your game. As a new player your first experience with the game should be pleasant and for this you should have all the gadgets according to your level and style. One wrong choice could cause a bad gaming experience and ultimately you may end up in losing interest in game.

So here are some tips related to what and when to buy, making your first day at play enjoyable. Before providing the detail about what is necessary in which aspect I am quickly providing the list as per Priority to buy.

PURCHASE ORDER:

  • Good Anti-fogging mask
  • Elbow and knee pads
  • Paintball gun (Beginner or intermediate level)
  • Tank
  • Hopper

1. Invest in Mask First!

Player will enjoy the game to the fullest if he knows he is safe in this play. Hence, We prioritize good mask over gun because of safety and comfort. Undoubtedly these 2 are key points in playing any game. Its worth mentioning that paintball speed is nearly 200 MPH, Therefore it could seriously harm your eyes if you get hit directly.

2nd thing is visibility, if the vision is not clear and masks is fogging up every few sec then ultimately it will affect your performance. So more comfortable and ventilated your mask is, the more you will perform better.

Things to consider before buying a mask are

  • Well ventilated
  • Properly fits to head
  • Anti fogging lens
  • Good cushioning

2. Knee and Elbow Pads

Paintball is an active sport, that during adrenaline rush involves sliding, diving and running so if you are a new player, your might not be used to of rashes and hits. However, You can buy an average quality knee pads and elbow pads and it will do just fine. Other than that, dress up in a casual sweat shirt and sweat pants and you are good to go!

Paintball jerseys and pants have padding in it and lightweight but they are not required as much unless you are in very aggressive kind of play i-e in woods ball play.

3. The Paintball Gun a.k.a Marker

After investing in a good mask it’s time to buy a solid marker having a good shooting quality so you can completely enjoy your game. As a beginner a gun should be durable and affordable so you can change this if it doesn’t suit you and also can bear your negligence of care. However, if you are planning to continue this sport, I will recommend to start from mid end marker because undoubtedly it will perform better than any starter gun.

Better accuracy and efficiency and easy maintenance are perks of having a good marker. However, I would suggest don’t buy a high end marker in the beginning as your first gun because it requires experience to run and maintain. You can further read our guide of Best paintball guns under $300.

My suggestions for Markers:

• Affordable Mechanical Gun – Planet Eclipse EMEK 100

• Electronic Gun – Etha 2

• Budget Friendly – Tippmann 98

• Best Starter marker – Tippmann Cronus

• Best for Customization – Tippman Stormer Elite

• Best intermediate Speedball – Empire Mini GS

4. Hopper and tank

Once you buy a hopper you don’t need to upgrade it as it will go with every marker you choose. There are 2 types of hoppers – gravity Fed hoppers and electronic.

PAL hoppers are best as they are gravity fed but take a pneumatic assist from the marker itself. Although electronic hopper makes gaming experience better as they are more consistent in feeding paintballs and lighter as well But, for a beginner we suggest a PAL hopper.

Talking about tank then go for aluminum HPA tank having the capacity of 48/3000.
